Belgian kennel opens swimming pool for dogs=09

A Belgian boarding kennel has opened an indoor heated swimming pool for
arthritic dogs.

Andr=E9 Verschueren from Arendonk started the pool as a way of =
exercising
older dogs with arthritis.

The pool has a number of special features including powerful filters to
take out dog hair.

Mr Verschueren told Het Laatste Nieuws: "Unfortunately most of the older
dogs have a bad condition, due to wear of the joints.

"In the water there is no more pressure on the joints. The animals learn
to move again and use their muscles. Warm water is best therapy for a
cure.

"They all like to run and and walk but it puts a lot of pressure on
their joints. In the water they can move without putting pressure on
it."

People who want to play with their dogs in the water are only allowed to
do so while wearing a diving suit.

"But we don=B9t encourage this," said Mr Verschueren. "It=B9s meant to =
be
fun for the dogs, not for their owners."=20
